Villa Hana

Villa Hana offers guests a breezy laid-back lifestyle within an easy stroll of Echo Beach. Fully staffed and with four private bedroom suites (including a double bunk room for kids), a large living pavilion, 15-metre pool, media room and barbecue terrace, it’s ideal for active families holidaying together, or for groups of friends drawn by Canggu’s noted surf breaks and sunset bar scene.

Moments from Echo Beach and securely set within high walls is an elegant four-bedroom villa skillfully sculpted from interlinking pavilions, courtyards and covered walkways. Created by notable Australian designer Stuart Membery, Villa Hana features contemporary tropical interiors that blend seamlessly with their surroundings; the split-level living pavilion is open-sided facing the pool, the bedrooms feature private garden terraces or open onto the pool; and the courtyards provide plenty of private chill-out spots. Over-sized sofas on polished concrete floors, black and white prints of Bali and abstract paintings on crisp white walls, rare artefacts in every corner – all attest to a modern design aesthetic where comfort is uncompromised.

The owners clearly know what appeals to families. Kids of all ages will love their cabin-style bunk bedroom for four plus, the dedicated media room with 52-inch TV and Playstation 2, and the 15-metre pool (where parents can keep an eye on small ones from the comfort of the living pavilion). Parents may like the choice of formal dining at the massive suarwood table or informally gathering around a second table on the barbecue deck, and are sure to appreciate the chance to retreat to their own master suite terrace for some peace and quiet. The idea of not having to lift a finger may also be welcome; working discreetly behind the scenes, Villa Hana’s staff includes an accomplished chef.

Villa Hana is only 300 metres – a ten-minute stroll – from Echo Beach with its pounding surf, expanse of sand, and popular cafes. If Seminyak beckons, or you want to explore other parts of Bali, a complimentary chauffeured car is at your beck and call.

VILLA LAYOUT

Villa Hana occupies a long rectangle of land bordered by high walls. Accommodation is in two adjoining single-storey pavilions forming an L shape around the swimming pool and linked by a covered courtyard. At the end and looking across a small stream towards rice fields beyond the trees is the master bedroom suite and children’s bunk room suite.

Facing the length of the pool and flanked by two guest bedrooms is the split-level living area with elevated dining area sandwiched between a covered courtyard terrace and the kitchen with covered BBQ area beyond. A flat-roof extension towards the entrance houses a multimedia room, guest cloakroom and staff quarters.

BEDROOMS

All four bedrooms are handsomely designed with polished concrete floors and a strong black-and-white palette reflected in framed halftone photos and animates by colourful paintings. Facilities include 32-inch TVs, DVD players and iPod docks, and there’s air-conditioning throughout – even in the bathrooms.

- Master suite
The master suite comprises a huge bedroom, bathroom-cum-dressing room, and covered terrace with seating looking onto a small garden edged by a stream. Striking artefacts are artfully placed and the king-size bed is positioned to enjoy glimpses of rice-fields beyond a screen of trees. Within the enormous bathroom is a dressing area, twin basins, a walk-in rain-shower and statement bathtub set before glazed doors opening onto the terrace.

- Guest bedrooms
Both guest bedrooms are furnished with king-size beds on bases of polished concrete facing the pool. Each has a wall of wardrobes, and an ensuite bathroom with semi-open shower.

- Bunk bedroom
Lining an entire wall of this delightful bedroom is a handsomely designed set of four bunk beds that promise lots of fun, day and night. Kids of all ages can curl up on floor cushions and enjoy a movie on their own 32-inch TV, or retreat to the private terrace and lawn. The room, which has an ensuite bathroom, can be converted to a family room with the addition of a queen-size bed.

LIVING & DINING AREAS

The heart of Villa Hana is the huge fan-cooled, spilt level living area spreading out under a vaulted pavilion roof and opening onto the pool terrace. Curvaceous wicker sofas with over-sized cushions clustered around a coffee table comfortably seat a full house of 12. Statuesque artefacts – baskets and bamboo fish traps – line benches set under enormous paintings.

A few steps lead to the slightly elevated dining area where, set before a wall of framed swaying palm prints and sea-shells set atop a polished cement sideboard, a solid Suar-wood table with stately armchairs seats 10 guests in style. To one side an ironwood deck provides an al-fresco sitting area looking onto a small frangipani courtyard garden. To the other, tucked behind sliding doors that can be closed for privacy or opened for inclusions, is the beautifully designed, well-equipped kitchen beyond which is a pergola-roofed ironwood BBQ deck with dining table and gas barbecue.

The air-conditioned media room provides a cool, comfortable entertainment hub for guests, who can languish on built-in sofas and ottomans among bright orange scatter cushions and watch a movie on the 52-inch TV with satellite channels, home theatre sound system, and DVD player. There’s a selection of DVDs, books and board games as well as Playstation 2. Next door is a guest washroom complete with open-to-sky rainshower.

A sun-deck wraps around two sides of the large 15-metre pool, furnished with loungers and outdoor cushions. Edging the deck, the verandah in front of the master bedroom provides another casual seating area with a traditional Indonesian day-bed set before a stone-faced wall, while the private terraces behind the master suite and bunk bedroom serves as quiet corners of retreat.

STAFF & SERVICES

One of the greatest advantages of staying in a villa is the personalised service provided by dedicated staff. Villa Hana’s staff has been professionally trained and will do their upmost to please with their warm and friendly Balinese hospitality.

- Villa Manager
Villa Hana’s friendly villa manager is responsible for the overall operation of the villas, including staffing and guest satisfaction. He will coordinate your requirements with the chef and other staff, and will assist guests during their stay, with the help of a guest services assistant.

- Chef
The chef will happily prepare Western, Asian, and children’s dishes, as well as discuss special requests and dietary requirements.

- Butlers
The butlers are dedicated to five-star service, ensuring guests have whatever they need. They serve snacks, meals and beverages throughout the day, and look after daily housekeeping – clean rooms with discretion according to the schedule of the guest. A butler is on call 24 hours.

- Security guards
The guards provides 24-hour security throughout the estate.

- Gardeners
The gardens are well tended by a team of gardeners and pool attendants.

- Driver
A driver and car (seating up to 7 passengers) is available for Villa Hana guests for up to eight hours a day at additional charge USD 25++/ 8 hours/day (excluding petrol)

DINING

Villa Hana guests enjoy the attention and expertise of their own resident chef, whose creativity in concocting mouthwatering meals knows no bounds. Breakfast, which is included in the rate, is a feast in itself; choose a full American breakfast, Indonesian dishes or more healthy options. The suggestion menu is extensive, covering everything from poolside snacks and light lunches to gourmet, buffet and barbecue dinners featuring local and international favourites. Snapper ceviche; sweetcorn and lime leaves soup with prawn dumplings; pan-fried tuna with brie-cheese mashed potato; basilica capsicum eggplant with orange ginger sauce; jackfruit and coconut panacotta with mango coulis – such dishes are testimony to the chef’s creative flair. He is also happy to tailor meals to accommodate any special dietary requirements, or prepare off-menu items.

To give staff time to shop, it’s a good idea to plan meals a day in advance. Groceries and beverages are charged at cost plus 20% (tax and service charge is applicable to the grocery mark-up only) the staff will do the shopping and keep the receipts for reference, with bills settled at the end of your vacation.

CHILDREN AT VILLA HANA

The family friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily, independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus – and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too.

Villa Hana is great for family groups. Younger family members will love their specially designed bedroom, complete with double bunk beds and beanbags set before the TV with DVD player and Playstation. The swimming pool is sure to be a magnet for their attention, while parents can keep an eye on them from the comfort of the open living area.

The team of friendly staff at Villa Hana will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).

Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will happily to do this for you – just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest. Pancakes by the pool for breakfast? Movie snacks in the media room? No problem. The chef can customise all meals to suit children’s taste buds.
