Welcome to Sohamsa Ocean Estate – two glorious villas perched on the cliff-top on the edge of the Bukit peninsula in the southernmost part of Bali. Here, our guests enjoy one of the most magnificent vistas on the entire island – a view enjoyed from practically every room in both the five-bedroom Villa Soham and four-bedroom Villa Hamsa.

Award-winning Singapore architect Ernesto Bedmar created the stunning contemporary buildings, using Indonesia’s abundant natural materials in soaring recycled ironwood pillars, Merbau-wood pavilion roofs, and walls of riverstone and Palimanan stone. Within the elegant interiors, brightened with an au courant palette of cool grey and white, are inspired design flourishes: signature walls of Bengkirai-wood blocks that bring sparks of light into both living pavilions; headboard panelling made of lacquered rice sacks in all the bedrooms; and over-sized resin-candle pendant lights suspended above Italian Statuario marble-topped dining tables.

The soul of these stunning cliff-top villas is the professionally trained staff team led by the highly experienced villa manager Pak Adhi – together dedicated to treating each guest as celebrity-special. At their heart is the accomplished chef, whose spectacular dishes mirror the inventiveness and elan of the setting in which they’re served.

Whether the villas are booked separately, or together for as many as 22, Sohamsa Ocean Estate offers the level of facilities and service that entice families and friends to stay put and enjoy every aspect. But with a chauffeured car at the ready, guests can be whisked away to the white-sand Pandawa Beach in minutes, and Bali’s best loved surf breaks, sea temples and seafood restaurants are within a half hour’s drive.

The Singapore owners chose a Sanskrit phrase for the estate name; ‘Soham’ – and its inversion ‘ham-sa’ (translating as ‘I am he’) references oneness with the universe and the presence of divinity in each soul. It’s an apt name as this beautiful setting is sure to inspire awe and contemplation on the beauty and richness of life.

Together, the two Sohamsa villas – five-bedroomed Villa Soham and four-bedroomed Villa Hamsa – offer a choice of four, five or nine-bedroom rental options.

VILLA EXPERIENCE @ SOHAMSA OCEAN ESTATE

A dedicated team of professionals looks after guests of both villas in the Sohamsa Ocean Estate under the watchful eye of the experienced villa manager. Each team member takes pride in learning the personal preferences of every guest and responding with a ready smile and typical Balinese charm.

DINING

Nothing says ‘luxury holiday’ more than being able to leave behind the daily grind of preparing family meals, and instead embracing the pleasure of having your own in-villa chef. With many years’ experience working in noted Seminyak restaurants, Sohamsa’s accomplished chef will enrich your villa experience immeasurably. Indonesian and Thai cuisine is his forte and he’s adept at international dishes too. All you have to do is leaf through the suggestion menu or make off-menu requests with him or the villa manager in the morning – perhaps after enjoying an excellent American continental or Indonesian breakfast. The next thing you know, you’re sitting around the dining table enjoying a leisurely lunch, candlelit dinner or sunset barbecue without having had to lift a finger.

The chef will happily coordinate the purchase of fresh menu ingredients as well as any special requests, including alcoholic beverages. Groceries and beverages are charged at market prices (plus a 20% handling fee which is subject to service and tax at the prevailing rate).

FAMILIES

One or two families will find Villa Hamsa a good choice with its 14-metre pool and gym, while Villa Soham’s 22-metre pool, gym sauna and steam room, and poolside entertainment bale will keep older kids well occupied. Booked together, the villas are perfect for multiple families choosing to vacation together.

Those with younger kids will be relieved to leave their paraphernalia at home as the villa has a cot, high chair and children’s cutlery, and can organize the hire of other items (such as pool safety fence) on request. Members of staff love having children around, and we can arrange for full-time or part-time babysitting too (extra charge applies).

There’s a kids’ menu featuring favourite foods, and the chef can prepare other dishes on request or adapt adult meals to suit young tastebuds. While parents are welcome to prepare meals for fussy eaters in the well-equipped kitchen, you can also choose to leave this in the capable hands of the kitchen staff.

Sohamsa’s clifftop location gives a clue to some of the family activities on offer. Just a few kilometres drive away is Pandawa Beach with its stretch of white sand and shallow protected waters where you can swim safely, build sandcastles or hire a kayak. Close by is paintballing and – for older kids – parasailing, and within half an hour are the attractions of Nusa Dua and Jumbaran and several world-renowned surf breaks.
