My friend and associate, Stephanie, has lived in Phuket, Thailand, for over 4 years. She takes care of renting out Sunyata, a villa in Kata Beach, 12 kilometres south of Patong, and she has become used to getting all sorts of requests. She sees each request as a personal challenge to satisfy her guests.
She’s always had faith in the team at the villa, and their ability to take on even the craziest of requests. Until the day when Paula, who was renting the villa, called her in a panic. They had only known each other for a couple of hours. Stephanie knew that Paula had come all the way to Thailand from the United States, to marry Jason. Paula had seen a photo of a special place, and reserved it for the occasion. She had just come back from visiting it. She was feeling disappointed and distraught, as it was nothing like the impression she had of it. Testing her luck, she asked Stephanie if it was possible to organise the ceremony at the villa. The wedding was the next day.
Stephanie became Jack Bauer from 24. Tent, buffet, dinner, bouquets, flower petals, fruit baskets, candles, lanterns, a boudoir for the bride. They were working flat out right up to the last minute, with only five staff on board. There was no time to think, which meant there was no time to stress either. When Stephanie saw Paula arrive two hours before the ceremony, she held her breath. It was all or nothing. Paula hugged her like she was part of the family. Mission accomplished. Stephanie slipped away to let them enjoy their intimate moment.
It’s now six months since Jason and Paula were married. Stephanie has no ambitions to become wedding planner. She is still the villa manager of Sunyata and the Partnership Manager of Heaven Rentals. She also stays in touch with Paula by email. They sent to her a lovely video of the occasion. She was very touched by this memory. Who knows, maybe they will visit the villa again one day with their children.
Rawai in a few words: a small city in the south of Phuket, 12 kilometers from Patong and 12 kilometers from Phuket Town. 1 hour by taxi from Phuket airport, and 2 hours from Bangkok, including the flight. Beaches are more secluded and private than in the north. Ideal place for couples or families looking for a rest. Diving, water skiing, wake boarding and kite surfing in Chalong. Ideal place for organising private events in Thailand, such as weddings or birthdays with friends.
