Villa Abiman sits on one acre of land on a quiet stretch of Sri Lanka's southern coastline. The house is elevated with gardens front and back and views of the ocean through palm tree tops.

LIVING AREAS

The living and bedrooms are all sea facing and designed to be cool and airy with high ceilings and through breeze. Inside is a spacious, open-plan living room with a well-equipped guest kitchen, bar counter and stools. The lounge is furnished with armchairs and a sofa, and a cabinet full of books, games and puzzles.

A veranda wraps around the inside rooms forming picturesque walkways and large, covered, comfortable spaces for dining and lounging. The large dining table seats eight to ten people. The veranda lounge has a big day bed, chairs and coffee tables. The verandas have ceiling fans and are well lit in the evenings.

The Pool
The saltwater, infinity pool sits on the edge of the upper gardens overlooking the sea. The pool is 1.5m/5ft deep and has been designed with a jacuzzi and shallow areas, perfect for cooling off. The pool is lit up at sundown so you can enjoy a night swim and the jacuzzi. There is also a poolside shower.

The pool deck is furnished with comfortable sun loungers and an outdoor sofa where you can relax with a book or just enjoy the view. Palm trees, fringed with spider lilies, provide shady spaces. The lounge group is a fabulous spot for morning tea and coffee and to gather together for sun down.

The Garden
Enjoy the peace of the large gardens, planted with tropical fruit trees, fragrant Sepalika and Araliya, flowering gingers, heliconia, hibiscus and lilies. Steps take you down to the lower lawn, a large, grassy area shaded by palm trees, perfect for outdoor games or relaxing in a hammock.

The Beach
Direct access to the sandy beach is through the garden gate. The bay is wide and long and perfect for beach walks, games, flying kites and making sandcastles. In season the waves are gentle and the waters swimmable. At other times the waves can be fun for bodyboarding. There is an outdoor shower next to the gate to wash off sand and salt.

BEDROOMS

All four bedrooms are sea-facing with attached bathrooms, ACs and ceiling fans, super king-sized four-poster beds, mosquito nets, a safe, ample closet space and a desk/vanity. Bedrooms 1 and 2 are attached to the main building and Bedrooms 3 and 4 are in a separate wing connected to the main house by a covered veranda. With family groups in mind, there are interconnecting doors between Bedrooms 1 and 2, and between Bedrooms 3 and 4, which alternatively can be locked for complete peace and privacy. An extra bed/cot can be put up in the bedrooms.

Aalindaya (bedroom 1)
This tranquil room sits at the end of the main house with its own veranda. Open the blinds and take in views of the crystal-clear pool, palm trees and the sea beyond. Step through the double doors onto the veranda to enjoy a morning cup of tea or coffee. A large bathroom opens out through antique doors to private twin showers.

Sepalika (bedroom 2)
This is the largest bedroom, furnished with dark wood, crisp white, and deep ocean blues. The two single four-poster beds can be put together to make a super king-sized double. There is ample space for an extra bed. The bathroom has a luxurious, free standing bathtub as well as a shower.

Tambili (bedroom 3)
Relax into the antique styled four-poster bed surrounded by the colours of sunshine. The room looks out over the lily pond with views of the palm trees and ocean. It has a separate walk-in closet and an ensuite with shower.

Nelum (bedroom 4)
This is another light and airy room with white furniture and colours of the sea and sky. Large double-doors open onto a veranda, fringed with Hibiscus flowers and furnished with a large daybed and chairs. The room has a walk-in closet and an ensuite with shower.

In-Bedroom Facilities
ACs, ceiling fan, safe, super-king bed, mosquito net, extra pillows and blankets, bedside tables and lamps, desk with chair, 3-pin and universal wall sockets, wardrobe/closet with hanging and shelf space, full length mirror, make-up mirror, bathrobes, flipflops/slippers, bath towel set, pool towels, beach sarongs, beach bag, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and other bathroom amenities, umbrellas.

STAFF

Villa Abiman has a team of five full time staff, a Manager, a Housekeeper and a Cook who all live on site and a Gardener who comes in daily.

Housekeeping
The staff will make beds, clean bedrooms and bathrooms and provide a turn down service in the evening. The living areas, garden and pool are also cleaned and tidied daily. There is a laundry room and drying area. The staff can do washing and ironing for you free of charge.

DINING

The villa's cook prepares breakfast which is included in the villa rental. The villa always has tropical fruits, Sri Lankan curd with kitul treacle, toast, and of course Sri Lankan tea and coffee. You can choose between a cooked breakfast with pancakes, eggs and trimmings, or a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast.

Lunch and dinner can also be made for you. Do try the traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry meal which can be made more or less spicy to suit your taste. The cook can also prepare non-Sri Lankan meals. He will discuss daily what you would like to eat and when. You just need to pay for the cost of the ingredients plus a small cooking fee. He can also prepare Sri Lankan snacks, or “bites”, such as devilled or hot butter cuttlefish, cashews fried with curry leaves, and fish or vegetable cutlets.

Filtered, purified, safe drinking water is provided free at the villa. The owners want to reduce plastic waste by avoiding buying water in single-use, throw-away bottles. The villa has plenty of water jugs, glass, and non-breakable water bottles for your use.

Two kitchens are available at Villa Abiman. A “wet kitchen” where staff prepare your meals, and an open plan kitchen and bar counter for guest use. Here you can make snacks, fix drinks or cook for yourself if you so wish. The staff will be happy to shop or advise you where to buy fish, seafood and other ingredients and will gladly show you how to make local dishes.
